Epic Australian Motorcycle Tour: Exploring Breathtaking Roads & Hidden Gems!
On this leg of my Australian motorcycle tour, it’s not about the destination—it’s about getting off the damn highways and into the real heart of the country. I leave Dorrigo after a truffle hunt, heading north, inland, chasing waterfalls and quiet roads where the only company is the sound of my engine and the occasional bird of prey circling overhead. Highways? They’re for commuters. Out here, it’s different—no traffic, no strip malls, just wide open spaces, rolling farmlands, and the kind of solitude you only find when you leave the easy paths behind. This is the kind of ride that clears your head, even if the cold bites through your gear and the rain feels like a slap to the face.
Not every day is Instagram-worthy sunshine, though. It’s cold, it’s wet, and my plans? Shot to hell. I wanted to go south but now I can’t, so I push forward, battling weather that makes you question why you do this at all. And yet… that’s the beauty of it. Not every ride is perfect, but the road is honest, and Australia—this big, beautiful, rugged country—has a way of surprising you. You roll into some forgotten corner of the coast and it feels like you’ve stumbled into Florida or LA, high-rises and money everywhere. Bougie beach towns full of life, then just miles away, wild stretches of protected coastline where no one has laid a hand. A place that feels untouched by time. Hats off to Australia for that—no billboards, no condos, just nature left alone, as it should be.
Along the way, I meet characters who remind me why I love traveling—friendly, open Aussies who will invite you to a meal or out on a boat like they've known you for years. There’s spearfishing with a guy I met at a hostel, cooking the catch over a glass of wine at a cozy hostel. One minute, you’re dodging rain and potholes, the next, you’re four-wheeling on some wild adventure you didn’t see coming. It’s unpredictable, it’s messy, but that’s what makes the journey worthwhile.
Not every ride is smooth—bike issues, weather, detours—but you take the good with the bad, because that’s travel. The moments that don’t go to plan are often the ones you remember most. And as I prepare to fix this damn starter that refuses to cooperate, I know one thing: I wouldn’t trade these days on the road for anything. Australia, you unpredictable, majestic beast—you’ve got me hooked. And I’m just getting started.
