Lumumba's Africa. The Slave Trade and Its Legacy Ep 14 | RT Documentary
8 months ago
1.27K
Slavery is one of the darkest chapters in African history. Africans were victims of the slave trade starting in the 7th century. European traders signed agreements with African chiefs and kings, but the "goods" they exchanged were people. Over 400 years, more than 15 million men, women, and children were shipped to the Americas, including the U.S., Jamaica, Barbados, and Trinidad. This devastated African societies, destroying their governance systems and cultural traditions. Africans were forced to speak foreign languages. Did slavery really end in the XX century? Or did it evolve into new forms of oppression for Africans?
