WE ARE IN DESPERATE NEED OF A NATIONAL SERVICE ANIMAL REGISTRY. WE NEED LAWS WITH TEETH TO STOP THIS RAMPANT SERVICE ANIMAL FRAUD!

AMERICA NEEDS A NATIONAL SERVICE DOG REGISTRY AND LAWS WITH TEETH TO CURB THE TIDE OF 'FAKE' SERVICE ANIMALS.
With literally millions of people ‘gaming the system’ we’ve got a problem.

Scammers come in all shapes and sizes, and there are none more common or irksome as ‘fake service dog’ scammers. These are the scumbags who take their dogs literally everywhere they possibly can. And when challenged or questioned they say, “It’s a service animal.” even though it’s not.

Most of these scammers are ignorant of the harm they are doing in continuing their fraud. They don’t understand that it allows non-service animals’ behaviour to sully the image of true service animals. A recent case, although minor, is representative of the extent of fake service dogs in our system. The story appears in the New York Post and about an airline passenger who was bumped from his 1st class seat to accommodate a likely fake service dog.

I say, “a likely fake …” because, when cornered, a dog owner can claim service animal status, and that’s where it ends. Airline employees are scared to death that for even questioning the dog’s status, this canine-loving piece of dog shit might sue them in court. The definition of ‘service animal’ in the ADA is relatively vague and doesn’t allow for positive I.D. of such well-trained and valuable animals.

With a national register we can tell right away if an animal is truly ‘trained and coupled’ with its owner. Remember that service dogs and their owners are both trained in order to produce the symbiotic relationship necessary for the ‘real deal’.

From supermarkets to restaurants and even medical clinics you’ll see Cynophiliac dog owners leading their mutts around with fake service animal jackets. Most of these fraudsters have become so emboldened that they don’t even bother with the jacket. They practically dare anyone to question or challenge the authenticity of their claim.

I once witnessed a dog fight in a big box store between a pit bull terrier and a mid-sized mutt. They went at it and blood and shit flew everywhere. Patrons were scared to death and kept their distance. Knowing the store manager’s misplaced love of dogs, his employees have been warned not to approach anyone bringing an animal into his store. This flies in the face of corporate policy, even if it’s clear their mutt’s not a service animal.

It’s America’s clear and present obsession with dogs that keeps this registry from being established. It’s Americans’ sick devotion to ‘Fido’ that keeps a service animal registry from happening. It’s Americans’ willingness to take unfair advantage through fraud that may doom forever the chances of establishing such a badly needed department of government.
