In the most recent security issue for the newly installed government, which took office almost two weeks ago, Syrian police officers were slain in a "ambush" by troops loyal to ousted President Bashar al-Assad in the Tartous province.

In Tartous, "remnants" of the al-Assad regime killed 14 police officers and injured 10 more, Interior Minister Mohammed Abdul Rahman announced Thursday. He also pledged to take tough measures against "anyone who dares to undermine Syria's security or endanger the lives of its citizens."
