The restaurant business may be in Jerry Scharf's DNA. The area's best known and most loved German restaurant carries his family name. Jerry says "My parents started Scharf's on the East Side in 1967."  He moved the business to Clinton Street in West Seneca about five years ago. Jerry says that the most popular menu item is still "our potato pancakes" which have been made the same way here for the past fifty years. Those popular pancakes start with grating potatoes, a job Jerry had to tackle early on saying "I fell into that, I had to do a few batches before my knuckles bled a little bit." The menu features an array of classic German entrees and out at the bar six German beers on tap, fourteen in bottles as well as German wine and cordials. With Jerry's son Tim in the kitchen and his daughter Andrea on the floor, Scharf's German Restaurant und Bar is a real family business. You can find them at 2683 Clinton Street, West Seneca, NY, on Facebook at at their website.
