A common pro-Pfizer argument in this scandal is that the SV40 virus is not present, rather only genetic sequences from the virus (specifically the enhancer and promoter genes - which enhance and promote integration into the genome). Kevin McKernan, a geneticist who happened across the SV40 contamination in these products, has never claimed the entire virus is present in the product. Yet the concerns remain real.
