Richard Perry, record producer behind 'You're So Vain' and other hits, dies at 82

Richard Perry, the legendary record producer behind hits like Carly Simon's "You're So Vain" and Rod Stewart's "The Great American Songbook" series, passed away at 82 after suffering cardiac arrest. Known for his versatility and collaborative spirit, Perry produced iconic tracks across pop, R&B, country, and more, including Harry Nilsson’s “Without You” and The Pointer Sisters’ “I’m So Excited.”

He worked with music legends like Barbra Streisand, Ringo Starr, and Ray Charles, leaving an indelible mark on the industry. Perry’s 1973 album with Starr, Ringo, featured contributions from all four Beatles post-breakup. A New York City native, Perry’s career spanned decades, highlighted by his ability to pair artists with perfect songs.

A 2015 Grammys Trustee Award recipient, Perry’s legacy lives on through his timeless productions. “The world is a little less sweet without him,” said his friend Daphna Kastner.
