Joe Scarborough Signs On To Project For Rebuilding The Left

Posted • December 25, 2024: Last week, we caught Joe Scarborough banging his desk in frustration as he inveighed against "billionaires" and wondered how the Democrats could possibly have missed the "layup" of beating the Republicans in November's election, given the disparity in income between those billionaires and working class Americans. Today, Scarborough made it clear that he has signed on to the project of rebuilding the left. He brought on as guests two critics of capitalism: Kurt Andersen and Daniel Chandler. The former wrote a book entitled "Evil Geniuses," condemning conservatives who want to reduce taxation and regulation. The latter has written a book suggesting that the Democrats and other left-wing parties around the world embrace the philosophy of John Rawls--which at its core calls for the redistribution of income.

Scarborough claims that he is a proud capitalist, but the only redistribution of income he condemns is that supposedly from the middle class to the rich, via the tax system. In his mind, letting people keep more of what they have earned is the same as welfare programs taking money from those who have earned it and giving it to those who have not. (…)
