Samantha Dravis: ‘Biden’s Cherry-Picking Criminals and Deciding Which Ones Are Going to Get a Different Outcome’

ROBERTS: “Pretty egregious that one murderer took the life of Lexi Roberts’ mother and then shot her four times and slashed her throat. I mean, where do you draw the lines?”
DRAVIS: “Yeah. It’s — it’s completely corrosive to the rule of law, to the justice system in this country, that Biden is cherry-picking criminals and deciding which ones are going to get a different outcome. The principle of the rule of law is that we all know what the laws are and they’re applied the same way to everybody, regardless of who you are. And if Biden wanted to take a principled stand against the death penalty because he’s Catholic, then why did he leave out three or four of these —“
ROBERTS: “Yeah.”
DRAVIS: “— inmates and give them a different outcome? I’d also say, you know, this was a political loser for Biden at the end of the day.”
ROBERTS: “Sure it was.”
DRAVIS: “Both sides are unhappy with how he handled it. Republicans are saying, we’re in the middle of a public safety crisis. You’ve just released a bunch of murderers.”
WILLIAMS: “I think it’s tough. I —
DRAVIS: “And Democrats are saying, you — you —“
WILLIMAS: “— I think it’s tough for people who are pro-life to say, ‘Oh, yeah, yeah, we don’t care about it. Go ahead and kill them all.’ That’s — that’s — that’s tough sell for Republicans, too.”
ROBERTS: “But now he’s saying, ‘OK, kill three of them.” [crosstalk]
DRAVIS: “And he’s overturning the rule of justices and courts who saw the facts of these cases and made the sentence. All right. Well, we’ll see where this all goes from here. And lots more to talk about in the new year. Samantha, Juan, Merry Christmas to both of you.”
