Body Camera footage from January 2015 shows Las Vegas Metro Police Officer Richard Scavone assaulting Amanda Vizcarrondo-Ortiz multiple times while she is handcuffed.

Scavone had stopped her because he assumed she was a prostitute. However, because "he had no proof of that" he instead charged her with loitering and littering (because she threw a coffee cup on the ground during the arrest).

In the process of arresting her, Scavone threw her to the ground, slammed her head on the hood of his car twice, and shoved her against the door frame as he was putting her into the back of the car. Vizcarrondo-Ortiz received several neck and head injuries as a result, some of which are permanent.

On January 11th 2018, Scavone received one year in prison as part of a deal to plead guilty to a charge of deprivation of rights under color of law. Vizcarrondo-Ortiz has filed a $2.5 million civil rights lawsuit for excessive force.
