0:01 In August 2019 the migrant rescue ship Open Arms asked to dock in Palermo.

There were 147 migrants on board.

For six weeks, Salvini (who was interior minister at the time) did not allow the migrants to leave the ship, while he asked other European countries to help take some of the migrants.

Eventually local magistrates forced him to allow the migrants to disembark.

Salvini was charged with kidnapping ("sequestro di persone") because he restricted the movement of the migrants / confined them onboard, and dereliction of duty because he did not do all he could have done to help ensure the safety and well-being of the migrants.

Salvini was found innocent.

The official verdict was "il fatto non sussiste" (the fact does not exist).

This is usually translated into English as "there is no case to answer".

Salvini faced many cases over his handling of migrant rescue ships in the summer of 2019, the others were all dismissed years ago, this was the only case to make it this far.

Salvini confirms this is not going to happen for bicycles but will happen for electric scooters.
