Can auto knives FAIL?? 🙄🔪 How to fix a Microtech OTF? Comparing 3 popular spring actions.

What should I do if my spring-loaded pocketknife fails to open?

First of all, it can mostly happen with automatic OTF knives that deploy their blades forward in a straight line - just like this Microtech Exocet. But this issue is absolutely not typical, and to encounter it, I must do something dumb such as blocking the action with another object. And if it eventually happens, I need to pinch the tip carefully and manually open the knife, by pulling the steel all the way out. This will reset the spring so your blade can close and open again like nothing happened.

However, the situation is way different with my Hogue EX5 - which is an automatic knife that opens in a traditional way. Usually, these tactical blades will still deploy even if I block their motion the very first time. So, they require no intervention.

The same is true for spring assisted pocketknives such as the Kershaw Random Leek that opens with a flipper tab, or a thumb stud, as its spring was designed to apply constant tension unless the blade is all the way open, or all the way closed.
