{ وَلَقَدۡ ءَاتَيۡنَا مُوسَى ٱلۡكِتَٰبَ وَقَفَّيۡنَا مِنۢ بَعۡدِهِۦ بِٱلرُّسُلِۖ وَءَاتَيۡنَا عِيسَى ٱبۡنَ مَرۡيَمَ ٱلۡبَيِّنَٰتِ وَأَيَّدۡنَٰهُ بِرُوحِ ٱلۡقُدُسِۗ أَفَكُلَّمَا جَآءَكُمۡ رَسُولُۢ بِمَا لَا تَهۡوَىٰٓ أَنفُسُكُمُ ٱسۡتَكۡبَرۡتُمۡ فَفَرِيقٗا كَذَّبۡتُمۡ وَفَرِيقٗا تَقۡتُلُونَ }
[Surah Al-Baqarah: 87]

Dr. Mustafa Khattab:
Indeed, We gave Moses the Book and sent after him successive messengers. And We gave Jesus, son of Mary, clear proofs and supported him with the holy spirit. Why is it that every time a messenger comes to you ˹Israelites˺ with something you do not like, you become arrogant, rejecting some and killing others?
According to Islamic beliefs, Jesus was born to a virgin in Bethlehem, similar to the Gospel account. However, the Quran's account of the Nativity differs from the New Testament in several ways:
Location: The Quran describes Jesus' birth in a "distant place" rather than Bethlehem.
Assistance: Mary gives birth alone, without Joseph or anyone else to help her.
Palm tree: Mary gives birth under a palm tree, next to a miraculous spring. A voice tells her to shake the trunk of the palm tree to get fresh dates to eat and drink.
In Islam, Jesus is known as "Isa" in Arabic. Muslims believe that Jesus was a prophet of God, and that he was taken into heaven after his death. They do not believe that Jesus is divine, but instead that the name "Son of God" was used metaphorically to refer to one of God's chosen prophets.
