Healing Wounds, Finding Peace, and Welcoming Christ
________________________________________
Welcome to today’s episode, where we delve into the profound lessons of Advent and Christmas. This holy season is more than a commemoration of Christ's birth; it is an invitation to prepare our hearts, heal the wounds around us, and open ourselves to the transformative peace of God.
We’ll reflect on the following themes: the call to heal, the humility and perseverance of the Holy Family, and the peace that Christ offers to those who open their hearts to Him. Our guiding quotes for this episode are:
• “We have been called to heal wounds, to unite what has fallen apart, and to bring home those who have lost their way.” — St. Francis of Assisi
• A vivid meditation on the Holy Family’s journey from Bl. Anne Catherine Emmerich.
• “The Christmas message is not that peace will come automatically... Peace belongs only to those who will to have it.” — Archbishop Fulton Sheen
• And the reminder from James 5:16:
“Therefore, confess your sins to one another and pray for one another, that you may be healed.”

Segment 1: The Call to Heal Wounds
• So when St Francis “We have been called to heal wounds, to unite what has fallen apart, and to bring home those who have lost their way.” St. Francis of Assisi reminds us of our Christian mission: to heal wounds, unite what has fallen apart, and bring the lost home. These words carry special weight during Advent and Christmas when the world’s brokenness feels most acute, and our longing for redemption grows stronger.
But healing is not passive. "Therefore, confess your sins to one another and pray for one another, that you may be healed. The fervent prayer of a righteous person is very powerful." — James 5:16
It begins with recognizing our own need for healing and taking steps toward reconciliation with God and others. James 5:16 exhorts us to confess our sins and pray for one another. True healing flows from humility, repentance, and the grace of God.
Ask yourself: who in my life needs my forgiveness, my prayer, or my kindness? How can I be an agent of healing within my family, community, and Church? This Advent, let us embrace this call, for it is only by uniting in charity that we can prepare the way for Christ in the world.

Segment 2: The Humility and Perseverance of the Holy Family
The vivid imagery from Bl. Anne Catherine Emmerich’s writings invites us to meditate on the struggles of Mary and Joseph as they sought shelter in Bethlehem. Imagine their exhaustion and Joseph’s heartbreak as he was turned away repeatedly. Mary, carrying the Savior of the world, waited patiently, humbly, and hopefully, comforting Joseph even in his distress.
"Mary remained with the donkey at the very entrance of the street while Joseph sought a lodging in the nearest houses in vain, for Bethlehem was full of strangers, all running from place to place. Joseph returned to Mary, saying that as no shelter was to be found there, they would go on farther into the town. He led the donkey on by the bridle, and the Blessed Virgin walked beside him. When they came to the beginning of another street, Mary again stopped by the donkey, and Joseph again went from house to house in vain seeking a lodging, and again came sadly back. This happened several times, and the Blessed Virgin often had long to wait. Everywhere the houses were filled with people, everywhere he was turned away ... Joseph led the Blessed Virgin to [a] tree, and made her a comfortable seat against its trunk with their bundles, so that she might rest while he sought for shelter in the houses near. ... At first Mary stood upright, leaning against the tree. Her ample white woolen dress had no girdle and hung around her in folds: her head was covered with a white veil. Many people passed by and looked at her, not knowing that the Redeemer was so near to them. She was so patient, so humble, so full of hopeful expectation. Ah, she had to wait a long, long time; she sat down at last on the rug, crossing her feet under her. She sat with her head bent and her hands crossed below her breast. Joseph came back to her in great distress; he had found no shelter. His friends, of whom he had spoken to the Blessed Virgin, would hardly recognize him. He was in tears and Mary comforted him." —Bl. Anne Catherine Emmerich
This scene teaches us the virtue of perseverance amidst rejection and the need for trust in God’s providence. It also serves as a reminder of how often the world fails to recognize Christ in its midst. How many people passed by Mary and Joseph, unaware that the Redeemer was so near?
Let us not make the same mistake. As we encounter others this Advent, let us remember that Christ often comes to us through the humble, the poor, and the suffering.

Segment 3: Welcoming Christ into Our Hearts
Archbishop Fulton Sheen challenges us to reflect on the true meaning of Christmas:
“The Christmas message is not that peace will come automatically, because Christ is born in Bethlehem; that birth in Bethlehem was the prelude to His birth in our hearts by grace and faith and love. Peace belongs only to those who will to have it. If there is no peace in the world today, it is not because Christ did not come; it is because we did not let Him in.” - Archbishop Fulton Sheen
This profound truth invites us to examine our own hearts. Have we truly let Christ in? Advent is a time to prepare for His coming—not just in the liturgical celebration of Christmas but in our daily lives. This preparation requires an active response: rooting out sin, fostering virtues, and embracing the grace that transforms us.
As we prepare to celebrate Christmas, let us make room for Christ in our hearts by seeking peace and reconciliation, both with God and with those around us.

Conclusion Prayer
Let us end with a prayer, asking for the grace to live out the message of Advent and Christmas.
Heavenly Father,
You sent Your Son into the world to heal its wounds, unite what was broken, and bring home the lost. As we prepare our hearts this Advent, grant us the grace to be instruments of Your peace and healing.
Lord Jesus,
Just as Mary and Joseph sought a place for You in Bethlehem, we open our hearts to You now. Help us to welcome You with humility, hope, and love. Teach us to see You in the poor, the suffering, and the rejected, and to bring Your light to those in darkness.
Holy Spirit,
Transform our hearts and fill us with the courage to confess our sins, to pray for one another, and to seek the peace that only You can give. May we live out the call of St. Francis to heal wounds, unite what has fallen apart, and bring others home to You.
We ask this through the intercession of the Blessed Virgin Mary and St. Joseph, who persevered in trust and faith. May their example inspire us to follow Your will with steadfast hearts.
In the name of Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior, we pray. Amen.

Until next time, may God bless you abundantly, and may the peace of Christ reign in your hearts and homes.
