This song is very loosely autobiographical, but is more of a reflection of how I wish some of my closest friends would have handled their lives differently, and are now suffering for not doing so. In another way, it’s about “opting out.”

As we enter the holiday season of 2024, remember that if you are an adult, you don’t have to do it. You don’t have to participate in it. By “it” I mean whatever it is that is a repeated source of stress, anxiety, quiet humiliation, degradation, painful inconvenience, or belittling of your life’s experiences and feelings about them. Be your own man/woman, turn your back on it and walk away. That is what true courage really is. Conformity is cowardice.

Some problems need to be faced directly, and others just need to be cut out like a cancer. You will know the difference, but will you act accordingly or simply follow directions? That’s what this song is about. If it motivates just one person out there to make a big change and fly away, then it will have been a success.
