Although the Roman Empire banned paganism under Theodosius I in 391 AD, Greek polytheism would survive until centuries later.

The inhabitants of the Mani peninsula in Greece were the last known practitioners of the Ancient Greek religion. Although they started converting to Christianity under the reign of Byzantine Emperor Basil I (who reigned from 867-886 AD), they only fully accepted Christianity in the eleventh century AD.
