🚴 A spring gravel bike return ride along the #RemutakaRailTrail, beginning at #Kaitoke, up to #SummitStation, and down to #Featherston via the historic #CrossCreek. Accompanied by a fellow gravel biker, the original plan to ride to the Summit and back quickly evolved into an extended adventure, thanks to unexpected calm winds and pleasantly cool conditions.

The ascent was quick and efficient, while the descent to #SiberiaCrossing Swing Bridge and onward to #CrossCreek offered breathtaking views of the rugged terrain and remnants of the historic #TrainYard. The trail then changed completely with narrow forest paths under a low canopy of trees alongside the trickling waters of #CrossCreek. These enchanting trails felt like a journey through a scene from Tolkien's #Hobbiton 🌿.

After a brief stop at the #TouristShelter, the ride continued to #FeatherstonTownship -- a perfect spot for a carb load-up and brief rest. The return leg brought with it a slow and steady climb through light drizzle from #CrossCreek up to the #SummitYards. With the sun dropping behind the mountains and the temperature falling, the return to base was completed just as twilight faded. The bike lights blazed through the pitch blackness, and the ride ended under a near-dark purple sky, marking the conclusion of an epic and unplanned adventure.
