Over the last two decades, youth incarceration rates have plummeted by 77%. Despite this progress, some young offenders still pose significant challenges. This video series captures the complex encounters between these teens and seasoned police officers. These are four stories of teens that were never told “No”
🔍 Episode Overview:
On the 30th of May, 2022, authorities received a distress call from a juvenile detention facility regarding an incident involving a minor who attempted to make an escape. The young individual reportedly assaulted staff members in an effort to flee the center. In response to the situation, a police officer was dispatched to the scene promptly, arriving to assist in controlling and managing the behavior of the disruptive youth.
On December 6th, 2022, the Crystal Lake Police Department was alerted to reports of a 2006 Honda Pilot that was observed swerving and tailgating other vehicles in a dangerous manner. Upon receiving these reports, officers promptly took action and successfully intercepted the vehicle near the intersection of Route 14 and Pingree Road. The officers approached the suspected driver and requested that she exit her vehicle in order to address the traffic violations she was suspected of committing.
On April 13th, 2022, the Hocking County Sheriff's Office received an urgent report concerning a juvenile who had run away. Deputies were dispatched to the location and discovered the youth, identified as Haley, attempting to flee once more from a juvenile detention facility. Upon being confronted, Haley expressed her desire to return to her home county and to be left in peace. She specifically requested to speak with Deputy Adam Castor, who was unfortunately not present at the time. The combined presence of the deputies and her mother on the scene significantly heightened her anxiety during the encounter.
On February 21st, 2023, staff at Matanzas High School urgently contacted the police to report a serious incident involving a student who had confronted a teacher. In response to the severity of the situation, deputies from the Flagler County Sheriff's Office responded with immediate action, quickly arriving at the school to handle the situation. Upon their arrival, the suspect was swiftly apprehended and arrested at the scene, ensuring the safety of all parties involved.
