Hobo Aloysius T. McKeever makes his home in a seasonally boarded-up Fifth Avenue mansion, each time its owner—Michael J. O'Connor, the world's second richest man—winters at his Virginia estate. Mr. McKeever takes in Jim Bullock, who has been evicted from an apartment building Mr. O'Connor is tearing down for a new skyscraper.

Mr. McKeever also takes in 18 year old Trudy Smith. She is Mr. O'Connor's runaway daughter. Jim and Trudy fall for each other.

Jim soon invites war buddies Whitey, Hank, and their families to share the vast mansion. They were unable to find homes of their own due to the veteran's housing crisis.

Meanwhile, Trudy has not told Jim who she really is because she wants to win his love without her wealth. She persuades her father to pretend to be a homeless man named "Mike" and have him move into the house.

And you can see where the fun starts. They get the mother in from Palm Beach and all.

Victor Moore, Don DeFore, Ann Harding, Charles Ruggles 1947

Academy Award nominee for Best Story. Lost to Valentine Davies' "Miracle on 34th Street." (Also on playlist.) Stiff competition. Still, it is a cute show. i love me some Charlie Ruggles!
