The shooting happened in the 300 block of Capitol St. around 9:45 p.m. on Nov. 18.

HPD officers responded to a call about two suspects trespassing on private property and threatening a property manager with a weapon. The officers found a woman and man on the sidewalk along the bayou.

While officers were detaining the woman, who identified herself as the suspect’s girlfriend, video shows him approaching them with his hands concealed.

Officer C. Castle, believing the suspect was armed, called out multiple commands for him to show his hands, which he ignored, HPD stated. The man continued to disregard commands, positioned himself in a shooting stance by bringing both hands together and pointing them directly at the officers. Officer C. Castle fired multiple rounds, striking the man in the leg.

During the encounter, the suspect’s girlfriend resisted arrest, causing both herself and an officer who detaining her to fall to the ground, sustaining minor injuries.

Both suspects were taken to area hospitals.
