We start out on the morning of Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade where the man playing Santa Claus is drunk. An old man named Kris Kringle discovers this and indignantly complains to event director Doris. Kris is a natural to play Santa and Doris persuades him to ride in the parade. Kris is well received and is subsequently hired to play Santa at the Macy's New York City store on 34th Street.

Kris has an impressive set of ethics. People are naturally in awe of his character. He finally fesses up to being the real Santa Claus. Doris is startled by his claim to be the genuine article. His sanity is questioned and he ends up in court. Meanwhile, her little girl is watching...
