This is the second of a four part series looking at the previaling economy and an alternative in Buddhist economics. This episode is mainly focused on consumerism, and how it has become something like a new religion, with identities, pilgrimages and devotion.

It also discusses the embedded problem of status, even spiritual status, and how we can turn even our spirituality into a kind of materialism. The Buddhist critique of this are the values so highly rated in the Dhamma, such things as modesty, contentment and frugality.

Dan Cozort discusses these issues with helpful slides, which give good pointers and summaries of the issues discussed.
