A victim of the russian oil spill in the Kerch strait after two poorly constructed russian oil tankers broke apart.

Several birds covered in fuel oil were found on the shore of the Kerch Strait in the village of Volna.

Local resident Natalia Sokolova said that the cormorants were washed ashore, but are unable to take off on their own.

According to some reports the fuel oil mainly remains on the bottom of the sea for now due to the low temperature of the sea water. Some of the fuel oil is inside the sunken tankers. Therefore, the oil stains may appear over a very long time.

Meanwhile, a high alert regime has been introduced in the Temryuk district of Kuban. At the moment, a majority of the oil spill has not yet reached the shore.

Ukraine blamed Russia on Monday for the oil spill in the Kerch Strait leading to the Black Sea, saying Moscow was violating shipping safety rules by using old tankers and sending them out to sea during storms.
