Cyclone Chido has hit the French overseas territory of Mayotte. At least 11 people have lost their lives in what authorities say is the worst storm to hit the island country in the western Indian Ocean in almost a century.
There is concern that the death toll could rise further.

According to the French meteorological service, Chido brought winds in excess of 220 km per hour and blew the roofs off houses on the archipelago of just over 300,000 inhabitants, located about 800 km off Mozambique.
