How Sugar Causes Acne on Your Face ? watch to know the process !
When we consume foods high in refined sugar—like candies, sodas, pastries, or Any sweetened products—our blood sugar levels Spike rapidly. This rapid increase in blood sugar prompts the Pancreas to release a surge of insulin, A hormone responsible for helping cells absorb glucose from the bloodstream. But When insulin levels spike, it doesn’t just control blood sugar. It also affect other hormones in the body, particularly a group called Androgens. Androgens, often associated with male traits, are present in everyone, and They play a major role in regulating oil production in the skin. When insulin levels are high, they stimulate Androgen Production, which, in turn, signals the Sebaceous glands in your skin to produce more sebum, or oil.
Now, while oil is necessary for keeping skin hydrated, an excess of it can be Problematic. This increased oil production often mixes with Dead Skin cells on the skin’s surface, creating a sticky mixture that easily Clogs Pores. And when pores are clogged, it becomes a prime environment for bacteria to grow—specifically, a type of bacteria known as Cutibacterium acnes, which is closely linked to acne. This bacteria thrives in clogged, oily pores, where it multiplies and further irritates the Skin. The presence of this bacteria in blocked pores triggers an immune response. Your immune system sends white blood cells to the site to fight off the bacterial growth, which leads to inflammation. This inflammation is what causes the redness, swelling, and tenderness associated with acne. So, the more sugar you consume, the more you’re fueling this entire cycle: Blood sugar spikes, insulin rises, oil production increases, pores get clogged, bacteria thrives, and Inflammation Flares Up.
On top of all this, refined sugar itself is known to promote inflammation in the body, which can worsen existing acne. When inflammation levels are High, the body’s natural healing process slows down, meaning acne lesions take longer to heal and can be more prone to scarring. So, not only does sugar intake trigger new breakouts, But it also makes it harder for the Skin to Recover.
