Jesus Christ, the sinless, perfect Son of God, bore our curse on the cross. In John 3:4, sin is clearly defined as the transgression of the law, and since all have sinned, as Romans 3:23 states, "for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God," - explaining the universal condition of sinfulness, the curse of death rightfully hangs over humanity. Yet, in an act of profound love and grace, Jesus, who was declared by God Himself at His baptism and transfiguration as His beloved Son ("You are my Son, whom I love; with you I am well pleased," Mark 1:11 - God's approval of Jesus; "This is my Son, whom I love. Listen to him!" Mark 9:7 - divine affirmation during the transfiguration), took upon Himself the curse we deserved. Galatians 3:13 encapsulates this truth beautifully, "Christ redeemed us from the curse of the law by becoming a curse for us, for it is written: 'Cursed is everyone who is hung on a pole,'" - illustrating Christ's substitutionary atonement.

This isn't just a theological point; it's the core of Christianity. Jesus' death on the cross was not because He was cursed by God due to any sin of His own, but because He willingly took our place, our curse, to fulfill the law's requirement for sin, which is death. Romans 6:23 states, "For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord," - highlighting the contrast between sin's consequence and God's gift.
