A Port Huron police cadet is being called a hero for assisting two girls who got swept away by the current of the St. Clair River. Police say the 9-year-old girl and the 13-year-old girl were swimming Thursday night at around 8:00 p.m. before the Port Huron fireworks. They were swept off a sandbar, and the current swept them to where they could no longer touch bottom.
