Why did I just smash my Kizer mini cleaver into tiny little pieces? Well, not because it wasn’t small enough… but it was in fact an unsafe piece of garbage with a stop pin that was dancing in and out of its socket.

Long story short - This video was requested by a viewer - Kai who’s into engineering and he wanted to know why this was the case. The problem also bugged me so I quickly disassembled my Kizer Sheepdog but what I found under the scales just blew my mind on another level. As these steel liners were machined to incredibly low standards. Especially those holes that were supposed to keep the stop pin in place because half of them were simply missing.

Just think about it… even a 5-year-old could see why free-floating tolerance pieces might cause some problems. Especially on a cleaver that comes with Micarta, which grip material typically warps or in extreme cases it even snaps.

And I’m kind of mad that Kizer screwed up another knife because I was very excited about the CPM 10V blade steel. But there is no reason for panic as a wise man once said “if your knife is not strong enough you just need to get an axe”.
