Jaron Ennis Turns Down Teofimo Fight -Was This the Right Move?

In a recent interview with Fight Hub, Eddie Hearn explains why Jaron Boots Ennis has turned down the Teofimo Lopez fight. According to Eddie, Boots prefers to fight in a unification match rather than fight a guy who is moving up from a smaller weight division.

At the same time, Eddie acknowledges that Boots needs a big-name fighter on his resume. Boots acknowledged last week in a YSM interview that he's an email champ who's never fought for a title.

He would rather stay at 147 and unify the division. At 147 you have Mario Barrios, Stantionis, and Brian Norman Jr. These guys are the other champions in the division.

Some people might consider this a duck move, but I don't. Teofimo might be a big name, but he brings nothing to the table at welterweight. If Boots beat Teo. Then he beat up a smaller guy who started his career at 135.

If Boots can unify 147, he can get the email champ stigma off of his reputation. But either way, fans will always view Boots as a duck now. The same fans who loved him yesterday are turning on him today.

These fans were Errol Spence fans who wanted Boots to avenge Errol Spence's loss to Bud. Spence fans jumped on Boots's bandwagon and made him some type of boogieman.

When in reality, he's not. The question I have for you guys is this. Did Boots do the right thing turning down the Teofimo Lopez fight, in order to pursue a unification bout at 147?
