Dashcam footage from Arkansas State Police shows a pursuit in Fort Smith that ends in a PIT maneuver.

Yardley Leonard, 30, was arrested following the pursuit with law enforcement that ended in a crash at the intersection of Greenwood Avenue and Kinkead Avenue on Dec. 5.

A press release from the sheriff’s office says at 8:30 p.m., a deputy was on patrol around Grand Avenue and N. 40th Street. At the intersection, he noticed Leonard’s vehicle had a headlight out.

The release says as the vehicle headed north on N. 40th Street, the deputy attempted to stop Leonard, and the vehicle sped away.

The sheriff’s office says Leonard fled and ignored several traffic control signs. At one point, he came to a complete stop and let a passenger out. Leonard continued to flee, turning down several streets in the area at an average speed of around 45 mph.

After several minutes, the release says the deputy noticed an Arkansas State Police unit behind him, and he allowed the trooper to take over the pursuit.

The dashcam footage shows the ASP trooper performing a PIT maneuver, causing Leonard to crash into a traffic signal.

Leonard was taken into custody, according to the sheriff’s office. The release says he was taken to a local hospital before being medically released and taken to the Sebastian County Jail.
