The "Scramble for Africa” was the rivalry of seven European powers for the resources and territories of the Black Continent. The result of the battle was the Berlin Conference of 1884-1885, where the colonizers simply shared the coveted booty. For hundreds of years Africa became a source of cheap resources and labor. Europeans destroyed ancient empires and cultures, introducing their own law and order. Entire nations were divided by the colonisers. The Republic of Congo, for example, became the fiefdom of the King of Belgium. Why are African countries still suffering the consequences of that partition? Does it make sense to revise the borders of states? And is unification possible?
