India's D Gukesh Beats China's Ding Liren To Become Youngest Chess World Champion

Indian chess prodigy Gukesh Dommaraju, just 18 years old, made history by defeating China's Ding Liren in a thrilling World Chess Championship final in Singapore after a three-week contest. The 14th 58-move game saw Gukesh claim a 7.5-6.5 victory, as he broke the world record as the youngest-ever world champion. Celebratory reactions erupted all over India. Prime Minister Narendra Modi, President Droupadi Murmu, and Opposition leader Rahul Gandhi among others took to social media platforms to hail Gukesh's momentous win. Former Indian world champion Viswanathan Anand hailed Gukesh's win as "a moment of personal pride." With this historic win, Gukesh will bring home the $1.35 million winner's share of the $2.5 mn prize fund along with the Chess world's most prestigious title.
