Kitsunetsuki literally means "to be possessed by a fox" and is related to the traditional belief that foxes can enter a person's body and take control of it. It was believed that people possessed by foxes often began to behave strangely - they might suddenly become aggressive, hoard food (especially tofu, which foxes supposedly like), or imitate other people's voices.
