Wouldn't It Be Good . The Lost Century . The Time Collector
Another science thriller - Nik shows us the way to "The Lost Century" as "The Time Collector"
Not to be confused with: The Lost Century!
The Lost Century of God's true Church took place from 70 to 170 AD. The Apostle John is the only one who records this crucial history. A few years ago I gave a program on the subject of The Lost Century. It was about the secular history of God's own Church, which was completely destroyed, which of course brought a lot of persecution. And so today I want to talk about this subject, but from a slightly different angle.
The enemies of God's Church persecuted them, and many of God's people turned against God. They lacked faith and love, and so it was a very, very difficult time for God's Church. And at that time - it was 85 to 90 AD - John wrote the Gospel of John, Revelation and the Epistles of John. But the letters of John deal with that lost century more than any of those books. So today I want to focus on the most specific book that deals with that lost century. What was it all about? And why did all this happen? And how did they learn their lessons from it, where some of them didn't. So it was a real crisis from 70 AD to 170 AD, and 70 AD was the fall of Jerusalem and really the greatest crisis that there was up to that point.
Let's look at 1 John 1 and verse 1 where it says, "...from the beginning..." So the people of God went to Pella in 69 AD and God protected them there because not only did they have their secular history destroyed, but they also lost a lot of their spiritual history. Today our people have lost both their secular history and their spiritual history. 95 percent of them have lost all of that, and you can read that in your Bible.
So what can we do to avoid these disasters? Well, let me just read you one quote. "John was different in many ways from the other gospel writers - and from all other biblical writers, for that matter. He is the only one who wrote about the 'Word.' John gave an overview and showed us how God sees everything! John gives us a perspective of the Word - of God Himself!"
So notice this here in 1 John 1 verse 1. Here is a vision that God says we all must have if we are to overcome the devil. We must have that vision, and when we do, we will be able to sit on David's throne with Jesus Christ and rule the world and the universe forever! That is the kind of tremendous reward that God gives to His people who do His work today.
Verse 1 of 1 John 1: "That which was from the beginning, which we have heard, which we have seen with our eyes, which we have looked at and our hands have handled, concerning the Word of life" - the Word of life! Go back to the beginning! You went back to the beginning when the Word came to this earth and lived with these disciples. What was His purpose? What was He going to do? Let's read a little further. These disciples were watching, they were in awe of all this because they were dealing with Him and because they were becoming so close friends and talking and conversing, and all of this was happening at the beginning of these letters.
And then I'll go a little further, 1 John 2, verses 13, 14 and 24. I'm just going to paraphrase that, but "from the beginning," it talks about you "knowing" the Father and because you "knew Him who is from the beginning," and that now means Christ. He has been with you, the disciples, from the beginning. And "you have overcome the evil one," and "you have heard from the beginning." From the beginning! God is getting them to focus back on the beginning of all this, when the Word came to this earth and lived with the disciples and many others. What is this really about?
Well, a little further down it says, "...what you have heard from the beginning, you also shall abide in the Son and in the Father." So here the Word became the Son and God became the Father because the Father begot His Son in the Virgin Mary.
And in 1 John 3 verses 8 and 11, He speaks again "from the beginning." From the beginning! Focus on the beginning! You need that vision or you will not defeat the devil! That's what He's talking about.
