“We have no intention of interfering in Syria’s internal affairs, but we are unequivocally determined to do what is necessary to safeguard our security.

Within this framework, I authorized the Air Force to bomb strategic military assets left behind by the Syrian army to prevent them from falling into the hands of jihadists.

This is comparable to what the British Air Force did when it bombed the fleet of the Vichy regime, which collaborated with the Nazis, to prevent it from falling into Nazi hands.

We seek relations with the new regime in Syria. However, if this regime allows Iran to re-establish a foothold in Syria, facilitates the transfer of Iranian weapons or any other arms to Hezbollah, or attacks us, we will respond forcefully and impose a heavy price on it.

What happened to the previous regime will also happen to this one.”
