South Korea’s Ex-Defense Minister Attempts Suicide Amid Martial Law Scandal

Former Defense Minister Kim Yong-hyun attempted suicide at a detention center on Tuesday night after taking responsibility for President Yoon’s controversial martial law declaration. Authorities confirmed Kim is in stable condition.

Kim resigned last week alongside top officials amid public outrage over the short-lived martial law order, which sparked mass protests demanding Yoon’s resignation or impeachment. Detained on Sunday, Kim faces insurrection charges.

In a public apology, Kim stated, "All responsibility for this situation lies solely with me." Investigations into Yoon and other officials for their roles in the martial law decision are ongoing.
