Jeremy Jones on the Music Behind 'Leroy and Lucy'

Rolling Out had the opportunity to speak with Jeremy Jones, the gifted music director behind Lucy and Leroy, showing at Steppenwolf from October 26 to December 15, 2024. A South Side Chicago native, Jones shared how his upbringing shaped his passion for music, leading him to work with world-renowned artists such as Yo-Yo Ma and Tye Tribbett. Drawing from these rich experiences, Jones infused the production with a musical direction rooted in blues and folk traditions. He reflected on how the myth of Robert Johnson shaped the soundscape and emphasized the rewarding collaboration that brought diverse perspectives into the storytelling.
