A LEADERS WORDS ARE LIKE CPR FOR THOSE THEY LEAD

“Many managers offer an open door policy for their fellow employees and those who report to them. The idea is simple: allow a means for anyone who has an issue to come into the office and voice their concerns. The implied opportunity has a shadow of ‘whistle blower protection’ if not true anonymity. Unfortunately, the hope for those who exercise the right of the open door policy is often to air their grievance and experience near immediate resolve, results or resolution. Sadly, the more common effect is the employee finds themself on the target list of their peers treated like outcasts as though they have some contagious disease. Until the leader speaks up and breathes life back into the situation, everyone walks on eggshells. The heartbeat of any organization is found in the vote of confidence from leaders who are in direct relationship to those who actually get the work done. Speak up for those who need your words to defend and guide them. Speak up to those who need hear those words to do the right thing.” J. Loren Norris
