Sound Mind, Sound Doctrine
(Understanding What We Say)
Text: 1Timothy 1; 2Timothy 1:7

Objective: that we may be sound in the faith and doctrine

Intro:
Define Mind, Sound, Doctrine
sound- adj.
analytic (or analytical), coherent, consequent, good, logical, rational,

reasonable, sensible, valid, well-founded, well-grounded
orig. - healthy

Characteristics of a Sound Mind and Doctrine:
1. Understands what is being said - v. 7

don't give heed to fables, endless genealogies - v4
questions are good if it is to answer an important question

and so builds up people - v4

don't swerve - v6
if you want to be a teacher, make the necessary preparations - v7

2. Uses the Law lawfully

vv. 9-10 - timing and object is critical - 'not made for'

3. Operate According the gospel of the blessed God - v. 11
-end of the commandment - v. 5

Message/conclusion:
Let us have the mind of Christ, a sound mind.
Having a sound mind, we'll be better able to understand and preach sound doctrine.
