Minority Leader Chuck Schumer complained on the Senate floor that Trump was not consulting Democrats in his Supreme Court pick. The president is poised to nominate his second SCOTUS Justice Monday night in what is still a mystery pick to reporters and the American public.

As the Trump pick loomed ever closer, Schumer took to the Senate floor to opine that the Heritage Foundation and The Federalist Society were involved in the making the list from which Trump has said he would choose. Schumer attacked the pro-life stances of the finalist judges and attacked one of Trump’s top legal advisors, Leonard Leo, for being “dedicated to overturning Roe v. Wade.”

Schumer then lamented that Trump did not pick a “bipartisan” judge or consult Democrats on his decision. “Now normally in the Senate, we have a process of advising consent on the Supreme Court,” Schumer said, “In the old days, the president would consult with Republicans and Democrats in the Senate on a qualified judge and then after careful deliberation nominate a jurist to get bipartisan support. What we have here is the exact opposite.”

Schumer continued, “The president has gone to two hard right groups, the Heritage Foundation and the Federalist Society, and asked them, not the Senate, to advise and consent on a Supreme Court nomination.”
