Fall Marya
The RDS-3, one of the early Soviet nuclear bombs tested in 1951, was a boosted fission bomb that utilized a combination of uranium-235 and plutonium-239 as its fissile materials.
The bomb incorporated a levitated core design, which increased efficiency by separating the fissile material layers with a small air gap to enhance compression during detonation.
It also included a deuterium-tritium gas mixture to boost the fission reaction, significantly increasing the bomb's yield compared to earlier designs.
The RDS-3 had a yield of approximately 42 kilotons, making it more powerful than the first Soviet atomic bomb, RDS-1.
This device was also more compact and sophisticated, reflecting advancements in nuclear weapon design during the early Cold War era.
The successful test of the RDS-3 marked an important milestone in the development of the Soviet Union's nuclear arsenal.
