John 8:46-59

• We see in this Gospel that before Christ’s Passion, the devil is working hard to undermine faith.
• One of Don Bosco’s dream/visions given for his religious congregation
• Ways the devil likes to attack souls to undermine and destroy a community- applies to any organization, family or group of people.
• “The phylloxera” – an insect pest – that spreads and destroys plants
• Metaphor for sins that destroy communities
• It spreads on the wind – that is murmuring (against superiors) and backbiting (peers)
• It cools mutual charity, ignites disobedience and causes destruction of the community.
• Tale bearing is very destructive.
