OUR GUEST SPEAKER ON THIS EPISODE OF THE MUSLIM STREET IS THE HONORABLE PROFESSOR ADNAN HUSAIN.
Professor Adnan Husain is a distinguished historian specializing in Medieval European and Middle Eastern studies. He serves as an Associate Professor in the Department of History and as the Director of the School of Religion at Queen's University in Kingston, Ontario.
Early Life and Education
Professor Husain completed his Bachelor of Arts, Master of Arts, and Ph.D. at the University of California, Berkeley. His doctoral research focused on religious phenomena and social imagination in Medieval Catholicism and Islam, with particular attention to Franciscan spiritual and Sufi mystical traditions.
Academic Career
At Queen's University, Professor Husain's research and teaching concentrate on cross-cultural and inter-religious encounters among Muslims, Christians, and Jews in the Mediterranean from the tenth to the fifteenth centuries. He has published extensively on these topics, including a forthcoming study titled "Identity Polemics: Encounters with Islam in the Medieval Mediterranean World (1150-1300)" and co-editing "A Faithful Sea: The Religious Cultures of the Mediterranean, 1200-1700."
Beyond his historical research, Professor Husain explores modern issues such as Islam and Muslims in Europe and North America, Middle Eastern politics, and the histories of transnational solidarities and resistance culture from decolonization to globalization. He is the co-founder and director of Muslim Societies-Global Perspectives (MSGP) at Queen's University, a project dedicated to research, curriculum development, and public education on Muslim cultures and diasporas worldwide.
Media and Public Engagement
Professor Husain co-hosts two podcasts: "Guerrilla History," which analyzes global history for the activist left, and "The Majlis," focusing on the Middle East, Islamic world, and Muslim diasporic culture, history, politics, and religion. He is also a regular contributor to "The David Feldman Show" and has appeared in several historical documentaries.
Personal Ideologies
Professor Husain is committed to anti-racism, equity, and inclusion. He has chaired the Senate Educational Equity Committee and led the Diversity and Equity Taskforce as Director of Diversity and Educational Equity Programs in the Office of the Provost at Queen's University. His work reflects a dedication to understanding and addressing issues of religious and racial exclusion, Islamophobia, and antisemitism.
Through his academic and public engagements, Professor Husain contributes significantly to the understanding of historical and contemporary issues related to religious cultures, interfaith relations, and social justice.

The Muslim Street is more than just a publication; it is a digital gathering space that values authenticity, integrity, and freedom of expression. Our contributors bring unique narratives from grassroots perspectives, whether they're expressing political views, sharing cultural insights, exploring faith and spirituality, or addressing social justice issues that impact the Muslim world. By embracing this diversity of thought and experience, The Muslim Street offers an inclusive forum where Muslims and non-Muslims alike can gain deeper insight into the richness and complexity of contemporary Muslim life, free from the filters of corporate or political agendas.
Our mission extends beyond simply giving a voice to the voiceless; The Muslim Street seeks to redefine how Muslims are perceived globally by focusing on self-representation and autonomy in storytelling. We understand that the stories most worth telling are often those that challenge stereotypes, encourage critical thinking, and showcase the resilience, aspirations, and creativity of people from The Muslim Street. Through our collective of bloggers, writers, and activists, we are building a bridge between communities, promoting empathy, and nurturing a sense of global solidarity that transcends borders.
Whether you are a seasoned writer, a passionate activist, or someone with a compelling story to tell, The Muslim Street invites you to join this movement. We welcome contributors who are eager to share their experiences, offer fresh perspectives, and engage with a global audience hungry for authenticity and truth. If you would like to become a part of this growing community and contribute to The Muslim Street, please feel free to reach out and leave us a post. Your voice matters, and together, we can create a platform that speaks to the heart of our communities and inspires change far beyond the digital realm.
