Episode 2: Medieval Naples was a city in great movement. In that period, Giotto, Giovanni Boccaccio, Petrarca and Tommaso D’Aquino graced the city’s stage. In the second half of the thirteenth century, an important European family, the French of Anjou, conquered Naples to make it a capital of the Mediterranean. Castel Nuovo, today known as Maschio Angioino, became the symbol of the new power, as did other churches and works of art linked to the influences of international Gothic.
