Lipoma excision, Upper Back

This patients came in to see me because she has this "lump" on her upper back that really bothers her. This is a lipoma, which is a benign collection of clonal fat cells, aka adipose cells. They are pretty common, not life threatening, but create bumps under the skin that can grow quite large. They do not cause any pain or discomfort usually, but people seek out removal of them because they are bothered by the appearance of these bumps under the skin
An excision is done here, and many times, a lipoma can be popped out whole, because it is often encased in a very thin fibrous capsule.
They are quite fun to "pop" out, as you can see here.

Thank you for watching!
