American Airline Partners Exclusively With Citi, Replaces Barclays As Card Partner

American Airlines has finalized an exclusive co-branded credit card agreement with Citigroup, phasing out its partnership with Barclays. Payments from these partnerships are expected to grow 10% annually. In the 12 months through September 30th, American Airlines earned over $5 billion from these deals. Barclays cardholders will transition to Citi starting in 2026, with Citi assuming sign-up promotions at airports and on flights. American shares rose over 6% in premarket trading following the announcement and an improved Q4 revenue forecast.
