Victim: Brian Thompson, 50, CEO of UnitedHealthcare, a leading health insurance provider in the United States.

Time and Location: The shooting occurred around 6:45 a.m. near the New York Hilton Midtown hotel, where Thompson was set to speak at an investor conference.

Investigation: Police Commissioner Jessica Tisch described the attack as “targeted” and said the gunman was lying in wait for several minutes before opening fire. The motive behind the murder is currently unknown.

Evidence: Shell casings with cryptic words “deny,” “defend,” and “depose” were found at the scene. The words may have been left behind to “make a statement” or “throw off police,” according to an NYPD detective.

Suspect: The gunman is still at large and described as a light-skinned male wearing a light brown or cream-colored jacket, a black facemask, black-and-white sneakers, and a gray backpack. Police are working to identify the suspect and bring them to justice.
