For years, we’ve relied on Amnesty to expose human rights abuses in places like China, Iran, Sudan and Russia. But now, with this label applied to an 'ally,' the question isn’t just about governments, media or institutions failing to act - it’s about us as individuals. What will we do?

Professor Amos Goldberg, a renowned Israeli historian and specialist of the Holocaust, has made the same declaration, calling the events in Gaza genocide. His statement, delivered yesterday as part of a powerful protest by Led by Donkeys, underscores that not every genocide looks like the Holocaust. As he explains:

“Each genocide looks different, and not all involve the killing of millions or the entire group. The UN Genocide Convention explicitly asserts that genocide is the act of deliberately destroying a group in whole or in part. But there does need to be a clear intent. The Israeli government, military, and media have shown clear indications of intent to destroy Gaza.”

This isn’t just an academic debate - it’s a moral imperative. In London's Parliament Square, a striking 40x40m banner displayed the words, “Yes, it’s a genocide,” echoing the evidence presented by experts and international organisations. The evidence is undeniable, and the call for action unavoidable.

We look back at past genocides with shame for our inaction. Now, with the truth laid bare, we cannot afford to repeat those mistakes. Our inaction makes us complicit to the worst of crimes.

We must confront this moment with clarity and courage. This is not the time for silence. Will you speak out?
