Gangs of Marseille: Welcome to the Most Dangerous City in Europe

This documentary follows the men and women of the Marseille police, the Anti-Narcotics Office, and the specialized squads who work to disrupt the drug trade.

In Marseille, a brutal gang war rages over control of the lucrative drug trade, which generates over €30 million per month and infiltrates the local economy through money laundering and investments in real estate, luxury boutiques, and other sectors. The northern neighborhoods have become crime strongholds, run by gangs operating with corporate-like structures but marked by deadly violence that claims both gang members and innocent lives.

Amid the carnage, families mourn the loss of loved ones, victims of the escalating conflict. To combat the crisis, Marseille’s police and specialized units relentlessly target the city's 200 drug sales points, some earning up to €100,000 daily. In the first half of 2021 alone, authorities arrested 8,000 traffickers, 60% of whom were armed with deadly weapons.
