On Tuesday, November 19, 2024, Sergeant R. Hoover had been working at the construction site off duty when the supervisor told her the suspect had stabbed a member of the construction crew. She began to chase after him in her car and called for other officers to help her. Sergeant T. Robinson joined the pursuit to help. The suspect led the officers on a chase, before he pulled over and exited the vehicle. The officers gave the suspect loud, verbal commands to drop his weapon, but the suspect did not comply.

Sergeant Robinson deployed his taser, but it was not effective on the suspect. Armed with his knife, the suspect began running toward Sergeant Hoover. Both Sergeant Hoover and Sergeant Robinson shot the suspect. The suspect fell to the ground, and officers provided medical care until the paramedics arrived. The suspect was identified as 39-year-old Benjamin Kubi. Kubi is charged with Attempted Murder, Attempted Murder on a Law Enforcement Officer, and Fleeing or Attempting to Elude a Law Enforcement Officer.

The construction worker who was stabbed in the chest/stomach area was taken to a hospital and is expected to be OK.
